"Urban Phunk Society est un collectif fondé par deux musiciens élevés au rythme de la pop des années 80. Il propose une musique chaloupée, sophistiquée et malicieuse aux accents très variés. Mise en images de la musique, le site incite à l’apaisement, à la rêverie et au vagabondage imaginaire. Urban Phunk Society!"
"The perfect sound track for the summer. Highlights on the album are: (amongst others) Brazilian newcomer Felipe Andrade, UK diva Lauren, 5000records acts Jon Archambault and Superpulse, as well as german outfits Monosolar and Urban Phunk Society."

Verdict: "Chill-Out at its finest. All inhale..." (******)
"If Fatboy Slim were a litigious sort of fellow, Urban Phunk Society would have plenty to worry about: Body Waves sounds suspiciously like Better Living Through Chemistry's "The Weekend Starts Here", stretched out over the course of an EP. Like that song, the beats on these tracks are slow and sensual, and at no time could the album be described as anything other than laid-back.
Given that Norman Cook is hardly averse to a little thievery himself, the French duo should sleep easily — not that they'd worry, judging by Body Waves. Songs like Don't Explain and Dub City are the sort of music that demands to be played at the end of a long day, perfect for unwinding and forgetting about the troubles of life.
Body Waves has moments, however, that suggest that Urban Phunk Society has the potential to be more than filler for chillout compilations. The EP is packed with little moments that suggest that the duo also have an eye to the bedroom; the bass line in the title track is the most obvious example, but a similar spirit prevails throughout the disc. Whether your purpose is chilling out or heating things up, Body Waves is ideal. Whichever you do, though, you'd better be able to do it quickly; at 20 minutes, the album is over far too soon."

"As the group's name implies, Urban Phunk Society are all about bringing smooth, bumpin grooves to your listening experience. They have a solid professional sound and they're not afraid of adding a luscious layer to their tracks... perfect for gettin' your lounge on!"
"Urban Phunk Society hail from Germany and their sound borders on Ambient Lounge/Chilled out Jazz. The two founding members of the group met on a camp site near the ever so exclusive St.Tropez where no doubt they learnt the magic of blissed out cool vibes which translates very well into 'Body Waves'. They chart their influences as 80s pop-roots, drum and bass and even house.
The group started in 97 giving their music away for free from www.urban-phunk.de and 'Body Waves' is their first professionally recorded CD. Amazingly after listening to the album they are not signed or distributed by any major player in the business.
On to the music and they do not disappoint at all. The headlining single 'Body Waves' is six minutes of pure chilled out indulgence with wicked samples and atmospheric sounds. 'Don't Explain' is wonderfully obscure, intrinsically put together and achieves almost a state of pure musical bliss.
Urban Phunk should be gracing your beach listening this summer as they make simply just pure beautiful music."
"Some time ago I received this nice little promo from the Urban Phunk Society. It's quite worth mentioning: smooth jazz-inspired tracks which are delicious for a sunday evening (like this one)."
